Twitter Filtered For Abusive Language During Obama’s Q&A Session

The Q&A session of United States President Barack Obama was neat and clean in terms of tweets. It is revealed the Twitter employees quietly filtered those to dump out abusive language from the platform.

Sources also claim the same steps were taken by the social giant in a session with celebrity Caitlyn Jenner.

Two teams were put to work to filter the abusive language. One team used algorithm to filter those where as another team deleted manually the messages that somehow were not caught and managed slipping through.

The information was revealed during a May 2015 #AskPOTUS event by a senior Twitter employee and the idea was passed by the then-CEO Dick Costolo.

The higher-level members of the platform were not informed about the steps in filtering abusive language during live sessions.

However, in 2014 too such filter was used to help in blocking of anti-Semitic slurs which were tweeted at British Parliament member Luciana Berger, but this has not yet been confirmed.

It is lately believed the move of Twitter is an example of a “double standard” that favors the high-profile users. Few months ago the social giant even banned account of longtime troll Milo Yiannopoulos.
