The executive order of United States President Donald Trump that bans people from certain Muslim countries to enter the US is not just a war on the Constitution as well as on core American values, but it is also a war on technology.
United States is known as nation of immigrants and the technology world highly justifies it as immigrants have helped build tech economy from top executives on down.
Take few example, the Google co-founder Sergey Brin emigrated from Russia. Taking part in one of the protests he was heard saying, “I’m here because I’m a refugee.” Similarly Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Google CEO Sundar Pichai too are immigrants.
Microsoft too has opposed the travel ban order of Trump and said 76 of its employees are from those Muslim-majority countries which are under the new ban list.
The software giant said, “We believe the executive order is misguided and a fundamental step backwards. There are more effective ways to protect public safety without creating so much collateral damage to the country’s reputation and values.”
Google too said more than 187 of its employees were from the seven listed countries. In a statement the search engine giant said, “We’re concerned about the impact of this order and any proposals that could impose restrictions on Googlers and their families, or that could create barriers to bringing great talent to the U.S.”
