Reliance Jio subscribers now need to pay for making a call to other networks and the rate of 6 paise per minute is affective from October 10, 2019.
A statement released by the company reveals Reliance Jio is now being compelled to recover mobile-call-related charges under the new regulation to compensate interconnecting user charges (IUC).
This means users now have to pay for making calls to other operators, but the calls made to other Jio numbers and landlines remain free.
The calls which are made from Viber, WhatsApp and other such apps will also remain free.
If users want to place calls to non-Jio numbers, a minimum balance is to be maintained and a regular package need to be subscribed too.
The minimum price of top-up voucher is Rs 10 and against it users get 124 minutes of IUC calls. The other denominations are Rs 20, 50 and 100.
Jio will be offering other data with the top-up vouchers without charging any extra.
Reliance Jio further adds in the statement that the charges could be discontinued in future if TRAI brings the IUC charges to zero.
Reliance Jio entered the telecom market in 2016 with surprising offers of free calls and texts to all users apart from affordable data rates. This started a price war in the industry and forced other operators to slash down their rates too.
