Fort Myers is a favorite Florida tourist destination. It is located about 120 miles south of Tampa , where the Gulf of Mexico meets the Caloosahatchee River. Fort Myers travel includes tourist attractions Fort Myers Beach, Bowditch Point Regional Park and Lovers Key State Park.

Fort Myers Beach

Fort Myers Beach is a community made up of Estero Island and San Carlos Island, just south of Fort Myers. The main attraction is miles and miles of white, sandy beaches located on the shores of Estero Island. There are over 30 beach access points where tourist can soak up the sun, swim or relax. For a more adventurous vacation, activities such as parasailing, canoeing, or kayaking, are available.

Boat cruises and charter fishing expeditions are popular activities, also. Fort Myers Beach is a designated location for one company that offers boat tours of the Florida Everglades. Instead of a leisurely stroll on the island, renting a bike and touring around is another way to enjoy sightseeing.

Bowditch Point Regional Park

At the northern tip of Estero Island is Bowditch Point Regional Park, which is located at 50 Estero Blvd. and includes 17 acres. Seven acres are a developed park, while the other 10 acres are preserve area. The gulf side offers area for walkers, swimmers, and sunbathers. The preserve area offers walking trails and bird watching views.

Additionally, Bowditch Point Regional Park has a concession area, tables and grills for family picnics and gatherings. A viewing area provides magnificent sight of Sanibel Island, the Gulf of Mexico, San Carlos Bay, and spectacular sunsets. The park is open from dusk to dawn, seven days a week.

Lovers Key State Park

At the south end is Lover’s Key State Park, which is located at 8700 Estero Blvd. Lovers Key is 2 ½ miles of pristine beach. Black Island trail is available for biking, with observation points along the way. Within the park lies 8 miles of trails, including the beach. Canoeing and kayaking are popular sports in Estero Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.

The park is one of the best birding areas. Osprey, Bald Eagles, Roseate Spoonbills, Snowy Egrets, and many other species can be seen in the locale. Lovers Key State Park in a great vacation spot for bird watchers. Shelling, or searching the beaches for seashells and other treasures from the surf, is another popular activity. The park is open year round from 8am until sundown.
