The coach of Guard’s Valorant team, Josh ‘JoshRT’ Lee, asked Elon Musk and actor Ben Affleck for help. Their team couldn’t compete in the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) because the organization didn’t follow the rules on time.
Riot Games said on August 29 that even though The Guard’s team got into VCT Americas, they won’t play because they didn’t send the right papers in time.
So, the league will happen with one less team than they first thought.
This made fans really mad and The Guard’s players sad. Lots of people in the group want a different group to take The Guard’s players and for Riot to let them play.
The Guard’s coach, JoshRT, sought help from Elon Musk and Ben Affleck
He did this himself and tried to get their attention by sending a tweet. He wanted them to help his team get back in the league.

He also called the team ‘X Gaming’. This name comes from the platform X, which used to be called Twitter before Musk changed it a bit.

Affleck and Musk became really popular online during the weekend. People found out that they were at the big final of the Valorant Champions tournament. The famous actor talked about not liking the recent changes to a character named Jett. He also said which character he plays the most.
A person named Leo Faria, who is in charge of esports for Valorant worldwide, said something. He explained that they had different ways to deal with the problem. One of those was to let another group take The Guard’s players. But in the end, Riot chose not to do that.
“He said that if we let another group take them now, it might make people want to sell spots in the VCT, and we don’t want that.”

It’s not sure if they will change their decision because of what people say, but if Elon Musk and Ben Affleck support an esports team, many people will be interested.
In the beginning of 2023, it was said that Kroenke Sports & Entertainment let go of many workers. People thought they might leave esports and sell their teams in the Call of Duty League and Overwatch League, LA Guerrillas and LA Gladiators. But up to now, they haven’t been sold. This could show that they really want to leave esports.
