How many Pokemon are there now: There are a vast number of different Pokemon you can catch throughout all nine generations of the game. They range from starters to Legendary and Mythical creatures. If you are curious about the total count of Pokemon, here is the information you are looking for.

The beloved Pokemon franchise has been around for many years, introducing numerous creatures and types since it debuted in 1996. With such a long history, it can be challenging to keep track of how many Pokemon are there now.

With each new generation, such as Scarlet and Violet, the National Pokedex can expand with over a hundred new Pokemon. We’ll make sure to update this page when new games are released. But for now, you have all the information you need to know about; how many Pokemon are there?

How many Pokemon are there now(special and rare Legendary)?

As of 2023, there are a total of 1008 Pokemon officially listed in the National Pokedex.

The number of Pokemon grew with the addition of new ones in Scarlet & Violet, including the starter trio Fuecoco, Quaxly, and Sprigatito. You can find a complete list of all Pokemon Gens 9 Pokemon here.

Our count does not include regional forms like Alolan Vulpix or Galarian Rapidash because they are considered part of the same number in the Pokedex.

It is important to mention that these 1008 species of Pokemon are spread across various games and generations. So, in any individual game, you won’t find all of them together; each game will have its unique set of Pokemon to catch.

How many special and rare Legendary Pokemon are there?

Currently, there are 66 Legendary Pokemon in the games, which is a huge increase compared to the five Legendary Pokemon that appeared in the original games.

The most recent additions to this group are Koraidon, Wo-Chien, Miraidon, Chien-Pao, Chi-Yu, and Ting-Lu from Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. Additionally, Enamorus is a new Legendary Pokemon featured in Legends Arceus.

This count includes pre-evolutions like Cosmog and Cosmoem, but it does not include Galarian versions of Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos. Also, Urshifu is counted as one Legendary, even though it has two different “styles.”

There are 18 different types of Pokemon, each falling into a specific category. These types include Bug, Dark, Fairy, Dragon, Electric, Fighting, Ghost, Grass, Fire, Flying, Ground, Poison, Psychic, Ice, Normal, Rock, Water, and Steel.
